Read 2 Peter 1:19-21

Even though we have read and learned much this week already, we may still have nagging doubts that the Bible could have been made up from legends, myths, stories and old wives’ tales. How can I be sure that it’s no lie?

The Bible was written over many centuries by different people in different circumstances. Even so it contains a consistent story line and has no internal inconsistencies. This is because God Himself claims to be the ultimate author. (2 Peter 1:21).

The transmission process did not allow for lies or errors to be included. The writers so revered God that they would not tolerate lies. Those who tried to lie about God were killed without mercy. In the New Testament the reports of the  resurrected Jesus would have been proven false by those who knew the truth. All they had to do was produce the body of Jesus! Yet no one ever did.

We also know that the Bible is historically accurate in many details (locations, names, world details etc.). If it’s true here, we can assume that the other details are true also.

If the whole thing were a lie then it seems incredible that the New Testament Apostles - who witnessed to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus - died as they stood up for this so called lie about Jesus’ resurrection. Paul and James were beheaded. Peter was crucified up side down and John was exiled to a lonely island. Thousands upon thousands of Christians were soon killed for believing in a risen Jesus. Today, thousands of Christians are being slaughtered for worshipping Jesus. Even the Old Testament believers were willing to put their life on the line in defending the Bible. This is hardly possible if it were all a lie.

Given the weight of evidence, it hardly seems possible that the Bible is filled with lies. Quite the contrary. It is very difficult to find any lies in the Bible, but rather truth from God. The real test is to read it and see for yourself. Ask the hard questions and be prepared for a great surprise as you find the truth.
