Sharing Your Testimony

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
Revelation 12:11
Sharing one’s testimony (the story of how Jesus has worked in their life personally) can be an easy yet powerful way to share the good news of Jesus Christ with non-believers. And because your testimony is a personal story that you have experienced, it’s very hard for others to argue with you. Others may argue with theology or with the veracity of the Bible but it’s very difficult to argue against something you have personally experienced.

Here’s a guide to developing and sharing your testimony.

Your testimony should be about 3-4 minutes long. That’s long enough to be informative and short enough to avoid boring the listener.

Don’t share the age at which you became a Christian. Your listeners may be put off. If they are older than you, it could be seen as childish or they could think they’ve missed their chance. If they are younger they may think that waiting until they are older is ok.

Structure your testimony into the following headings or subject areas;
My life before I knew Christ
How I came to know Christ
My life now that I know Christ.

Focus on Christ and not on yourself. The word “I” should not occur too often. Remember it’s about Jesus working on and in you not how great you are in finding Christ.

Use language the other person can understand.

After you have shared, ask probing questions to see if God is working in the listener. Ask questions like ‘Would you like to know more about following Jesus?’ or ‘Do you want to check out Jesus some more?’

When you have written out your testimony, why not upload a video of your testimony or the script to our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ChristLifeToowoomba
