Why Reading Notes?

At ChristLife Church we give out Daily Reading Notes for a variety of reasons. Not only does it help each person prepare for the Sonday sermon, it also helps cells and families as well.

Cell groups are encouraged to use the notes as the basis of their weekly or fortnightly meeting. Each week contains a suggestions for cell page that can be used as a template for that week’s meeting. If, by chance, a particular person wasn’t at church on Sonday then he or she can still participate meaningfully in cell because he or she will have read the notes during the week. Having Daily Reading Notes and a Cell Suggestions page  also reduces the work load of the leader and minimises duplication of workload across the board. We encourage all cells to get on board and to be using the Daily Reading Notes.

The Daily Reading Notes also help families. Research has proven that families that eat together more than 4 times per week are more stable and less likely to be dysfunctional. As a family, you can use the notes together, for example, after a particular meal each day. Read the given Bible passage together. Younger family members can show off their reading skills! The notes can then be read and Dad/Mum can explain any difficult bits. The questions for discussion in the grey box can then be used to create discussion and engagement. Initially younger children may need prompting and support from Dad/Mum but that’s ok. As they grow they will engage more and think for themselves. As parents, you’ll see them developing and growing. The prayer points at the end can also be used in this family setting.  You could take turns praying or someone different can pray on each particular night. Be flexible and find what works for your family.

The Discipleship Moment gives Dad/Mum an opportunity to share even further with the children. Each Discipleship Moment is based on the day’s reading notes and Bible passage. The Introduction is designed to get the child’s attention by hearing about your faith and your walk with the Lord. Open up and share from the heart. The kids will love hearing about your faith. The Discussion section is an opportunity to ask questions and to get your child talking.  A Bible passage is given as is a particular prayer that you can pray together with your child. Take the time to invest in the spiritual and eternal well being of your children.
