Read Matthew 10:26-27

These verses are often read over and forgotten about because they make little sense. We rarely stop to think about  them. Jesus has sent the disciples out on a mission and He sends us out on that same mission.

Part of that mission is exposing the sinfulness of the world. That which is concealed and hidden will be revealed and brought into light. Ultimately that will happen on the day that Jesus judges the world but as we preach the Word and take Jesus to the nations, part of that mission is to reveal the sinfulness of the world. What Jesus reveals to us and speaks to us is to be proclaimed loudly from the rooftops.

And, obviously, as we reveal the sinfulness of the world, the world will get angry. Nobody likes having their sins exposed. That’s why Jesus surrounds these two verses with the encouragement not to be afraid. Have a look again at the verses and notice the ‘fear not’ injunction at the start and end of these verses about revealing the sins of the world.

As believers we need to be exposing the sinfulness of abortion. We need to be revealing the sinfulness of pornography and the trade of humans and children in the sex industry. We need to be speaking out about the evils of sexual perversion and the like. And as we do, rest assured, the world will get angry with us.

But Jesus whispers to us the very same words of comfort that He gave the disciples ’So do not be afraid of them... Do not be afraid of those who kill the body...’ Can you hear the words of Jesus? Do not be afraid. Do not be afraid. Do not be afraid.....
