Read 2 Corinthians 13:5-6

As Paul seeks to bring repentance to certain Corinthians he may ask them to do something that sounds weird and unprofitable in our eyes. He calls the Corinthians to test themselves to see if they are in the faith. As we think through what’s been said already (Read 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1 again) the logic is clear.

If you are in Christ and as you realise that Christ is literally living within you (this is not feel good imagery but a literal truth to behold!!!) it becomes harder and harder to sin. Paul doesn’t want the Corinthians to fail the test. He wants them to realise that Christ is living in them. Is it fitting for a temple of the Lord to be walking in wilful sin? Of course not! Is it ok for a person filled with the Holy Spirit to be united to a prostitute in the pagan temple. Heaven forbid. Is it ok for a believer to have sexual union with his  father’s wife. NO! As I grow in the realisation that Christ Himself is living in me, I grow in a desire not to sin. I grow in my desire to be holy, righteous and pleasing to God.

A young boyfriend and girlfriend asked their minister what they could do and what they couldn’t do as boyfriend and girlfriend. The minister wisely replied, ‘What would you do if Christ were sitting right beside you?’ Christ is not beside us but within us. Let us live appropriately.

Prayer:-

  • Pray that non believers around us would see our holiness and be drawn to worship Christ Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

  • Pray that those believers who are addicted to sin would have the power of sin over their lives and hearts broken by the blood of Christ. Pray that God’s grace would overwhelm them and bring lasting repentance and change.
