Read Genesis 1:1-2
As I sat in the church classroom with some non-Christian teenage boys, I tried to explain to them the basic concept of Christianity that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are all divine…
Before I had finished my sentence one of the lads piped up somewhat triumphantly, ’So you do worship three gods!’
This whole concept of the Trinity has caused a lot of pain, misunderstanding and confusion to many inside and outside the faith. The word ‘Trinity’ is composed of two words - tri meaning three and unity meaning oneness or togetherness. As such the word picks up on the unity of the Godhead amidst the three ‘persons’ of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. At no point does the word Trinity imply that we worship three gods!
But if God is one He can’t be three! Correct? The rules of logic states that something cannot be ‘A’ and not ’A’ at the same time. This has led to confusion because logically God can’t be one and three at the same time. The definition of Trinity is that God is one in essence yet three in persons. Rather than saying He is ‘A’ and not ‘A’ we are saying He is one in ‘A’ and three in ‘B’. There is no contradiction to the laws of logic.
At the other extreme some people say that the “Trinity” doesn’t exist because the Bible doesn’t use the word Trinity. To see how ridiculous this statement really is, we need only consider that the word ‘dinosaur’ doesn’t occur either but is a distinct reality. The word ‘Trinity’ was created by theologians to express the truth conveyed in the word.
The Trinity is hard to fathom but then again, if we could totally understand and figure out God, would He be a God worthy of our worship?

Supplication:
ª Ask the Lord to give your Committee of Management a desire to grow the Kingdom. Pray that God would grant this committee great wisdom and insight as it uses your funds for the task at hand.
ª Ask the Lord to bless the families in your congregation. Pray that these families would grow closer together and closer to the Lord as they gather around the Word. Pray that the parents would be wise in the way they run/manage the family.
Walk Moment – Tomorrow is church. Will you go to “worship” God and hence to detract from YOURSELF? Will you forget yourself and focus directly on God? Worship is about God and not about you. Worship means to focus wholeheartedly and singularly on God and not on ourselves. Will you worship tomorrow or will you go to consume?
Discussion Questions For Families and Groups
1. If a Christian said to you, ‘ I don’t believe the Old Testament because it’s not about my salvation!’ how would you respond?
2. Why should the Christian believe the Bible from cover to cover?
